Dad’s 50th Surprise party?
Hi All, We are taking my father away soon for a weekend in edinburgh, staying at apartments with the family.
Its all a big surprise and I need suggestions on games and music to play as we are staying in on the Friday and going into town on the saturday.
He was born in 1959 and is very easy going, so I would love to surprise him with games from childhood and music too. He is not into country music but likes everything else.
We have made a slide show of photo’s to play on the friday when we get there and I have lots of decorations etc, but now just desperately need games and music?
We are going into edinburgh on the saturday so if anyone can also recommend any good pubs I would really appreciate it, Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!
Thank you M
I found a lot of information when I googled “50 birthday party games”. Hope this helps and party hard!
Here are some examples of 50th birthday party games that are just right for the 50 year old, family and friends.
Caption contest
Have a collection of pictures of the birthday guy or gal, especially photos showing various facial expressions. Buy “talking bubble” labels that are blank from a party or stationary store. (If you can’t find them, buy removable mailing labels and with a thin black marker, draw talk bubbles on them.) Arrange the pictures on a poster board with space in between. Have plenty of thin tipped markers available. Invite guests to come to the table when they want to, and add captions to the pictures. It’s fun because people circulate to see what others have written.
Special props
Bring along an assortment of items that are special to the 50 year-old. Give one item to each table of people, and have them try together to write a story about why the item is special. Then, each table in turn has a representative read the story and the birthday guy or gal then tells the real reason it’s special.
70s Trivia contest
Gather some trivia questions pertaining to the 1970s (online or at a game store). The reason this decade is good is that the 50 year-old was high-school/college age at that time and well aware of events of that time. There are lots of ways to play, but for a party, teams are a good choice. You could also do questions throughout the party and the first person with a correct answer wins a door prize.
Poetry slam for the birthday person
Have each table write a limerick or a haiku (3 lines with 5 syllables in the first and third line, and 7 in the second) about the birthday person. Then while one person plays a bongo in between poem presentations, let a representative from each table perform their poem. If a whole poem is too much, have each table write two rhyming lines and then put them together into a single poem. It’ll be funny! Collect all and gift them to the birthday guy or gal at the end of the party.
Decorate with gold balloons because a gold & white theme goes with the 50th anniversary color – the “golden anniversary.”
