The English words shared with the French language

English and French sound very different when you hear about, but these two languages actually share little in common, especially when writing. Knowing the history of the two languages will help you understand the similarities and differences they like.

French History modern

Both French and English began in European countries. The French is a "Romance" language, which means that its origin located in the ancient Roman Empire. Latin was the language of the Roman Empire, but since the Empire has a very broad scope, many regions have developed their own dialects of language, often mixed with indigenous languages. When the area is now known as France was invaded by Germanic tribes in 400, the language has had a decidedly Germanic flavor. The language of the new Board has been blended with Latin, people talked about creating a new dialect, decidedly American, but Germanic pronunciation.

As the Germanic tribes retained control of the area deflected over the language of America and its language became independent. This required to encode or written language, so that the political and legal process could take place much easier. The language was named "French" for the people of the Franks who lived in the area where they spoke mostly. The French became the official language of their new country in 1539 by the Edict of Villers-Cotterets. The grammar of the language has remained relatively unchanged since the early 1600s, when language has been standardized by the French Academy. Today is official language of 22 countries, and co-official language of many others, including Canada, Switzerland, Madagascar, and Belgium.

History of Modern English

English is one of the most spoken languages worldwide. A truly global language is the language of finance, technology and diplomacy. This is surprising given the fact that language is the small island of Britain.

The English language is a romance language like French. Because the island has been isolated Roman Empire was not influenced by the Latin language as strongly as inwards. However, the French and English share common main, and the influence of the Germanic tribes.

Despite the different tribes that invaded England invaded France, spoke a similar language. Before the Germanic invasions people of Britain spoke a Celtic language. However, the people spoke a Germanic language, which eventually developed into Old English. This was the language spoken the island until 1100.

In 1066, French and English history overlap when William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, conquered the island and made the territory French. While people do not speak French, the government has done, and the language have begun to influence the language of common people, possibly developing English medium, a combination of French and Old English. This gradually evolved into modern English, the language is spoken today, and the invention of printing helped to unify and standardize the language.
