Cabin Decorating Ideas
Decorating a rustic cabin can be a fun and rewarding experience. Cabins are places to put your feet up and relax. Your getaway should reflect that feeling. A good way to do this is to select items that you won’t have to worry about getting banged up. Antiques offer a great look and have already taken years of use and abuse. Searching through antique stores is a great activity for a rainy day, and may turn into a fun hobby while on weekend getaways.
Many cabins have either log interiors, post & beam construction or feature tongue and groove pine paneling. This leaves a beautiful rich feel, but may leave you yearning to add color. Cabin style wall decor takes care of this nicely. Vintage cabin signs use vibrant colors on wood or metal and feature cabin and woods scenes and or images of animals such as bear and moose. Reproduction signs can be personalized to allow you to add your family, cabin, lake or town name and make it your own. Paintings, prints and art can often be found in nearby shops by local artists.
Another way to inject color is in the choice of rugs. Cabin style rugs use geometric shapes or repeating patterns of animals, fish, mountains or relevant elements to produce the appropriate look and feel.
If you choose a living room rug with a bear or moose print, you may want to select a simple pattern or solid color for your upholstered furniture. A braided rug or rug with a simple border leaves the door open for more creative decisions for your living room furniture. Hickory sofas and love seats with lodge style fabric are a natural fit.
Birch bark, twig and hickory furniture and accessories always look nice, and somehow make a camp or cabin more relaxing.
Rustic lighting can really set the tone. A popular choice for chandeliers is antler. Deer, moose and elk shed their antlers seasonally, so if you are concerned about animals being harmed to create these works, make sure you select a company that uses naturally shed or resin antlers. Stained glass , mica and twig lamps are also available in many rustic styles.
There are lots of options when shopping for cabin furnishings. Many websites specialize in rustic decor and more and more manufacturers are adding high country lodge items to their lines.
Finding just the right item to use in your cabin retreat is often an ongoing effort, so enjoy it and congratulations on your recent purchase, renovation or re-decorating.
